Meeting of Experts for the Rehabilitation of American Fortifications
Abstract:
After several years of research and communication with colleagues in the field, WMF, the World Heritage Centre, and the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia-INAH Campeche organized a conference a “Meeting of Experts for the Recuperation of American Fortifications”, which took place in Campeche, México, March 12-15, 2004. The purpose of this meeting was to identify needs and gaps and to develop models and solutions for the protection, preservation, management, re-use and interpretation of fortifications in America. Another goal was to sensitize local and national authorities about the need to safeguard the American forts through comprehensive and participatory planning and finding appropriate new uses.
