Abstract:

Describes the development of a conservation master plan for the temple complex of Preah Khan in Angkor, Cambodia and expands on “Report II: Preah Khan Conservation Project – Project Identification,” issued concurrently. Written after two field missions of World Monuments Fund to Preah Khan in March 1991 and March 1992, this report discusses the conservation philosophy for Preah Khan in anticipation of a series of field campaigns starting in the winter of 1992-1993. The administration of the forthcoming first season is presented. The various conservation issues to be addressed over the course of the project are described in greater detail. The report thoroughly describes the design of a computerized inventory system for Preah Khan, and a number of technical appendices provide further specialized information. The 12th century temple complex of Preah Khan in Angkor, Cambodia is one of the most significant remains of the ancient Khmer civilization. This is one of a series of reports charting the evolution of the conservation efforts of World Monuments Fund at Preah Khan. Issued concurrently with “Report I: Considerations for the Conservation and Presentation of the Historic City of Angkor” and “Report II: Preah Khan Conservation Project – Project Identification.”
