Angkor Trip in
February 2009 |
WMF has been working
at the archaeological park in Angkor,
Cambodia, for almost
20 years, training Cambodian workers in conservation
techniques. We are offering a trip this February to let our
members get an insider's glimpse of our work at this
magnificent place, including a behind-the-scenes tour of the
famed Churning of the Sea
of Milk gallery at the iconic Angkor Wat, and the vast
monastic complex of Preah
Khan.

It Takes a
Village |
Over the next year, the World Monuments Fund will be
working with CRATerre-ENSAG on a capacity-building program in the
remote African village of Arou in Bandiagara,
Mali. This 2004 Watch site and World Heritage cultural landscape
contains one of the oldest and most important Dogon temples. We are
teaming up with local inhabitants to train them in conservation work
and tourism
management.

The Color
Purple |
The Salon de Musique in the
Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal has been restored to its 18th-century
glory after more than 70 years without maintenance. The rare purple
hue on the walls found underneath more modern paint might seem
unusual, but it was all the rage in mid-18th-century Paris, and this
stunning salon contains the only surviving authentic example of this
style.

Training in
Cambodia |
WMF took part in an ICCROM course last month for managers and
conservators working at Angkor, Cambodia. The
course has enhanced the management, conservation, and evaluation
techniques of Cambodian professionals, which will benefit the sites
in the Angkor Archaeological
Park. |
