Lecture |
| Join WMF's Board of
Trustees for the annual Paul Mellon Lecture on British Heritage
on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at the Morgan Library.
Dr. Jonathan Foyle, Chief Executive of WMF Britain, will
discuss the history of the magnificent Stowe House in
Buckinghamshire, 60 miles northwest of London, in a
lecture called "Stowe House: The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of an
Architectural Masterpiece."

Nomination Forms Now Online |
The World Monuments Watch, a list of 100 endangered
sites issued every two years by WMF, calls international attention
to cultural heritage threatened by the forces of nature and society.
One of our most effective tools, the Watch has saved hundreds of
sites. The nomination forms for the 2010 World Monuments Watch are

Monuments Fund Working at Babylon |
|
With funding from the U.S.
Department of State, WMF is working alongside Iraq's State Board of
Antiquities and Heritage to assess and map the current
conditions of the famed ancient city of
Babylon and develop a plan for its conservation and
management. |

Actress Jeanne
Tripplehorn, currently starring in HBO's acclaimed series Big
Love, is our new celebrity
spokesperson. |
| Stunning French
Chapel Choir Restored |
 World Monuments Fund recently completed
conservation work at the spectacular, though little-known,
17th-century Choeur des Religieuses, or
nuns' choir, at the Couvent de la Visitation in Moulins.
The four-year project at this architectural treasure culminated in
the opening of the building to the public in early
December. |
| Local
Community Gets Active in
Guatemala |
In early December, WMF and Guatemala's Ministry of Culture held
a workshop in Antigua Guatemala to develop proposals for the reuse
of the Palace of the Capitanes
Generales, a 2008 World Monuments Watch site. For the first
time in Guatemala's history, local community members were invited to
participate, and the successful workshop was attended by
more than 50 people, including experts from Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba,
and the
U.S. |
