Haiti Earthquake Relief
All of us at the World Monuments Fund mourn the lives lost following the earthquake in Haiti on January 12. As the people of Haiti recover from this catastrophe, WMF is committed to helping in recovery efforts, bringing our expertise in disaster response to this devastated country. We will be coordinating our work in Haiti  with HELP (Haitian Education & Leadership Program), the group that nominated the Gingerbread Houses of Port-au-Prince to the 2010 Watch. Please help us - even a small donation can go a long way!

Modernism at Risk on the Road
WMF's traveling exhibition, Modernism at Risk: Modern Solutions for Saving Modern Landmarks, is on view at the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach through February 6. The exhibition will be on view at the AIA New York Center for Architecture from February 17 through May 1.
WMF Projects in Spain on View in NYC
WMF has teamed up with the regional Spanish government of Castilla y León and the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute in New York for an exhibition on the famous Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. A number of WMF sites are featured, including the Cartuja de Miraflores Monastery, the Collegiata de Toro, the Roman aqueduct in Segovia, as well as two 2010 Watch sites: the Old Town of Avila and the route of Santiago de Compostela. Treasures along the Route of Santiago de Compostela in Castilla y León will run from February 23 to April 12.

St. George's Bloomsbury Illuminated
Nicholas Hawksmoor's architectural masterpiece, St. George's Bloomsbury in London, is now illuminated by a 17th-century Dutch chandelier on loan from the Victoria & Albert Museum. The installation of the
chandelier marks the completion of the seven-year, multi-million-dollar
restoration of this iconic London landmark.

Check out this new video showing the chandelier's installation.
Watch Update: Segovia Aqueduct
The Roman Aqueduct in Segovia, Spain, a 2006 Watch site, should have a bright future, thanks to WMF's advocacy. WMF held a workshop in Segovia this fall that brought together, for the first time in three years, the regional government of Castilla y León and Segovia's municipal authority to work collaboratively on a management plan that will focus on the entire hydraulic network, including the Aqueduct's iconic stone structure. Also in attendance were representatives from the Acueducto de Tembleque in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo, a 2010 Watch site, to exchange information and share their experience.
Merritt Parkway Assessed
Amy Freitag, Director of U.S. Programs, recently drove the length of the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut with Jill Smyth, Director of the Merritt Parkway Conservancy, to assess the state of the historic roadway, a 2010 Watch site. Infrastructure work and controversial tree-cutting has focused attention on this road, one of the most famous and scenic of the historic American parkways.

As a result of this tour, WMF and MPC intend to develop enhanced site and tree protection guidelines to improve long-term stewardship of those areas of he Merritt Parkway subject to construction activities.
