Restored Queluz Palace Gardens Open
The gardens of the Palace of Queluz in Portugal have been reopened to the public following a restoration project carried out by WMF Britain, WMF Portugal, and the Portuguese Institute of Museums and Conservation. The opening ceremony for the revived gardens took place in October. Lead statues by English sculptor John Cheere, stone sculptures, fountains, cascades, and hydraulic systems were all restored during the eight-year campaign. The project provided training for local crafts workers, enhancing local capacity for long-term stewardship of the site. The restoration of the palace façades and improvement of exterior illumination will be completed before the end of the year.
