Chautauqua, New York

World Monuments Fund has partnered with the Chautauqua Institution for a series of lectures in August on the theme of “sacred spaces,” part of Chautauqua’s annual summer program lasting from June to August. Running from August 8 to 14, the “sacred spaces” series will explore the interconnection of religion, history, geography, architecture, and culture.
Ten lectures will be given during the week by well known cultural figures, including documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, Cleveland Museum of Natural History Executive Director and CEO Evalyn Gates, Foundation for Landscape Studies President Elizabeth Barlow Rogers, and architecture critic and professor Paul Goldberger.
WMF President Bonnie Burnham will deliver the final lecture on August 14, focusing on the preservation of sacred spaces. Through these talks, guests will learn about some of the most important and threatened sacred sites in the world.
The Chautauqua Institution is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to lifelong learning. Based on the four pillars of Art, Education, Religion and Recreation, Chautauqua’s programs aim to renew the spirit, stimulate the mind, value the arts, and promote physical well-being.
