Santa Maria Antiqua: An Early Medieval Treasure in the Roman Forum

Werner Schmid, a conservator on the project and my guide, took me inside the semi-ruinous ancient church that was the focus of a WMF project, including a conditions assessment followed by conservation work, from 2001 to 2010.

WMF Supports Capacity Building in Data Management and Collection for Babylon Staff

From September 13 to 24, two surveyors from Iraq’s State Board of Antiquities and Heritage (SBAH) Inspectorate participated in a training course organized by CyArk in Oakland, California. The Iraqis came to Oakland to learn various tools relating to data collection and management that will in turn be used at Babylon.

Field Mission to Bafut, Cameroon: Part 3, Queen's Houses

On the final day of our visit to Bafut, we drove up into the green rolling hills of the Cameroon Highlands that surround the town to visit the Prespot tile factory. Conservation at the palace has so far focused on re-roofing the Queen’s houses. As the most visible aspect of the intervention, the appearance of the new tiles is all-important.

Last week our Cambodian colleagues celebrated the beginning of Chum Bennh, or Ancestors Day, the most important holiday in Cambodia after the Khmer New Year. They celebrated at Angkor Wat with a small party before having three days off to worship their ancestors with their families.

Taos Pueblo: Cause for Celebration
