WHY IT MATTERS

Few Holocaust survivors from Mád returned at the end of WWII. Those who perished in the war have been memorialized with their names on plaques inside the synagogue. Groups of foreign and local visitors make regular visits to this site. Today this building serves as a Holocaust memorial, but it is also a testament to beautiful and now rare Hungarian synagogue architecture.
