Route 66: The Road Ahead

This report provides a summary of the strategic roundtable, Route 66: The Road Ahead, held November 20-22, 2013, in Anaheim, California. The event and this report are a follow-up to the Route 66 Economic Impact Study, which was completed in 2012 by Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in collaboration with the U.S. National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program and World Monuments Fund. The study emphasized the importance of heritage tourism and historic preservation to revitalize the Mother Road, and the roundtable focused on preservation as a tool for community and economic development along Route 66. The report aims to galvanize collective action to preserve Route 66. The study, the roundtable, and this report were executed with the generous support of American Express.
