Watch Day at Salvador de Bahia offered local youth a variety of activities to learn about their city’s historic architecture. Over 70 children between the ages of 4 and 5 donned Watch Day t-shirts and explored the city center with a special stop at the cathedral. One of the featured activities was a program to paint interpretations of the church’s decorative tiles.
More than 70 local children participated in Watch Day, beginning with a picture taken at the Church of São Francisco in Anchieta Plaza.

Children were given a guided tour of the historic center, which is highlighted by seventeenth- and eighteenth-century houses and churches, and its grand cathedral.
Participants learn about their heritage and the history and culture of Bahia.
They explore the fine interiors of the Cathedral of Salvador, built in the second half of the seventeenth century and marvel at the cathedral’s remarkable gilded ceilings.
They learn about azulejos, painted ceramic tiles that are a Portuguese tradition transferred to the Americas.
Together, they participate in an art workshop in the cloister of the Church of São Francisco.
They create their own azulejos.
A fun and educational day was had by all!
