World Monuments Fund’s preservation work helps bring greater recognition of historic sites around the world and contributes tangible benefits to the communities that care for them. Each time we collaborate with local colleagues and engage the people who live near a site, we create a beneficial chain reaction. Our conservation projects return treasured places to use and enjoyment by local residents and visitors. Preservation often generates new jobs and educational opportunities. The conclusion of the conservation work is really just the beginning of a new chapter in the life of the site. Conservation activities leverage new appreciation, inspiration, and investment, and provide opportunities for sustainable tourism and other engines of economic development.
