Miami Mission

The campaign to preserve and restore <a href="/project/miami-marine-stadium">Miami Marine Stadium</a> got a boost on April 28, when a design competition for a floating stage to compliment the stadium was held at the University of Miami. Back in the 1960s, when the stadium was built, a flat-topped barge with demountable band shell was pulled up in front of the 6,500-seat waterside grandstand for a variety of productions including concerts.

In May, Pauline and Erica Avrami, WMF's Research and Education Director participated in a day of presentations at the University of Pennsylvania. Graduate students in historic preservation at UPenn focused research for their advanced conservation science class on 2010 Watch sites.

The restored synagogue was dedicated on April 5, 2011. As there is no Jewish population in Zamo?? now, the synagogue will not serve as a house of prayer. Rather, it will serve the needs of Jewish visitors to Zamo?? as well as its inhabitants.

Hands Around Wheatley

John Stubbs, WMF's Vice President for Field Projects, recently traveled to New Orleans to partake in a demonstration against the demolition of Phillis Wheatley Elementary School. A public rally was held on April 17th to save the Phillis Wheatley Elementary School, a masterpiece of modernist architecture in the Trem&eacute;/Lafitte Historic District of New Orleans built in 1954.

Into the Clouds

Mark Weber, WMF's Field Projects Director, traveled to Bhutan in July to visit three sites. Two of them, Trashigang Dzong and Drametse Lhakang, are the focus of joint WMF-Prince Claus Fund disaster relief projects, as both were damaged in a recent earthquake.
