Chullpares del Río Lauca: Su Conservación y Restauración - Proyecto Piloto de Conservación de Monumentos, Restauración y Conservación, Mantenimiento

The prehistoric burial towers, or chullpas, in Bolivia’s Sajama National Park comprise the most important monumental complex of the Aymara people. The adobe and stone chullpas were included in the 1998 Watch, and from 2004 to 2006 17 chullpas were conserved as part of the Vice-Ministry of Culture’s conservation program implemented with support from WMF. The following publication details the overall program, great significance of these archaeological monuments, and the steps undertaken for their conservation.
