Preservation of Art and Architecture: Salzburg Seminar Session 285

Held in June-July 1990, the 285th session of the Salzburg Seminar was the first to consider the issue of historic preservation. In the wake of the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc, issues relevant to the cultural property of former Eastern Bloc countries were examined. The session was viewed as a unique opportunity to improve East-West relations and to create a common philosophy towards historic preservation practices. This report contains summaries of nine lectures and of the proceedings of four seminars, a list of the topics of evening presentations, a description of special activities undertaken by the participants, and a summary of a concluding presentation by a group of fellows. This concluding session identified key issues that had emerged during the conference.
