World Monuments Fund Presents

A Restoration Project at Chapultepec Park

Mexico City’s Chapultepec Park is the oldest and largest urban park in Latin America, and one of the oldest urban parks in the world. The Chapultepec Park Trust, committed to the rehabilitation of the park and the reactivation of underused areas for public enjoyment, has carried out many projects in the past decade to protect the park’s heritage and improve conditions for the close to 15 million people who visit the park each year. After including the park on the 2016 World Monuments Watch and through an award from American Express, WMF began working alongside the Chapultepec Trust in the restoration and adaptive reuse of a former nineteenth-century gatehouse building.
