State Theater
A lot of great old cinemas of Hong Kong have been relegated to the dustbin of history.
The last remaining movie palace in Hong Kong, the State Theater is currently threatened by demolition. The complex design of the building, which ceased to be used as a theater many years ago, is distinguished by the procession of reinforced concrete parabolic arches that support the curving roof of the main auditorium, allowing for an unobstructed and column-free interior. Hong Kong’s Antiquities Advisory Board proposed the designation of the theater as a Grade 1 historic building but, as of date, the building remains unprotected.
