Siam Reap, Cambodia

Villa Princiere

It exudes a rare taste for simplicity. I wish other new buildings in Cambodia would be inspired by it.

This sleek guest house, originally built in 1963 by architect Laurent Mondet for the royal family of Cambodia and one of the last remaining modern architecture sites in Siem Reap, was incorporated into a luxury hotel.  The intelligent adaptive reuse of the guest house illustrates how thoughtful repurposing can preserve the architectural integrity of a historic building and also prevent its demolition. The same approach could be an answer to the similar scenario found in the Namazee Villa, in Tehran, Iran.
