Andahuaylillas Dia Del Patrimonio
The WMF-sponsored conservation work on the church of Andahuaylillas, which is often described as the heart of the neighborhood, acted as a catalyst for a subsidiary project focusing on the development of the community itself. Made up of youths from Andahuaylillas, the Patrimonio Cultural Identidad y Desarrollo Comunitario holds as its main objective the preservation and perpetuation of the region's cultural and natural heritage. The group developed so as to combat the loss of identity that was taking place particularly in the Valle Sagrado, due to the increase in tourism and globalization. In the past two years, with the guidance of Ernesto Noriega, they have been very active and were able to engage the community in the preservation of its traditions. Also due to the group's mobilization, Andahuaylillas was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
The Dia Del Patrimonio, which took place from the 28th to the 29th of May, 2011, celebrated the first anniversary of this declaration, reflecting the pride that the inhabitants of the town now take in their heritage and identity. The two day festivities commenced with a literary soiree, where four videos addressing contamination, global warming, and other more region-specific topics were screened for the general public. On the following day both the Mayor Vicente Salas Pilares and the Regional Director for the Ministry of Culture in Cusco, Juan Julio Garcia Rivas, addressed the local community. Several activities took place throughout the day, demonstrating that tradition and culture can still live and breathe alongside the inhabitants of the town today. These activities included a walk along the historic circuit, competitions of traditional games in the Plaza de Armas, as well as drawing, painting, poetry and photography contests for the older age groups. The Dia Del Patrimonio not only commemorated an important day in Andahuaylilla's recent history, but also promoted and demonstrated an engagement with the town's natural and cultural heritage.
El proyecto de conservación de la Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas que fue auspiciado por WMF, impulsó un proyecto de desarrollo comunitario. El grupo Patrimonio Cultural Identidad y Desarrollo Comunitario fue creado para combatir la pérdida progresiva de identidad, que era resultado del incremento en el turismo y la globalización en varias comunidades, particularmente en Valle Sagrado. En los pasados dos años el grupo, compuesto de jóvenes residentes de Andahuaylillas y guiados por Ernesto Noriega, ha estado muy activo y ha logrado la participación comunitaria en la preservación de su patrimonio y tradiciones. Gracias al activismo del grupo, Andahuaylillas fue declarado Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación.
Los días 28 y 29 de mayo se realizó en Andahuaylillas el evento interinstitucional denominado DIA DEL PATRIMONIO, celebrando el primer aniversario de la declaratoria de Andahuaylillas como Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación. La celebración comenzó el viernes 28 con una velada cultural en la Plaza de Armas; se proyectaron 4 videos que trataban temas de contaminación, el calentamiento global y sus repercusiones en los nevados en los Andes, y otros temas específicos de la región.
El siguiente dia, la ceremonia se inició con el izamiento del pabellón nacional y el discurso inaugural por el Alcalde Vicente Salas Pilares. El Director Regional del Ministerio de Cultura de Cusco, el Arq. Juan Julio García Rivas se dirigió a la comunidad conmemorando la participación comunitaria en la revaloración y protección del patrimonio. Así mismo manifestó el orgullo de haber declarado a Andahuaylillas como Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación.
Las actividades del dia incluyeron recorridos por el distrito histórico, juegos tradicionales en la Plaza de Armas, así como varias competencias de dibujos, pintura, fotografías y poesía para grupos de todas edades. El evento enfatizó la participación de la juventud. Tenía como objetivo sensibilizar a la población y crear conciencia del valor del patrimonio natural, construido e intangible de Andahuaylillas.
