Intern Describes Work Experience at WMF

My internship at World Monuments Fund began on February 6, 2012. I was really excited about having the opportunity to work in the Empire State Building, especially considering how historic the building is. Initially, I was not considering working for WMF. In fact, I did not really know about WMF at all. I was looking for jobs in other places. However, I am glad that I came across WMF.

When I started working as an intern for WMF, the first thing I noticed was how nice everyone was. All of the members of the staff created a very welcoming environment for me. Everyone is willing to help each other out in order to get things done. I liked how my supervisors, Pauline and Margot, would explain the background behind every assignment they gave me. This way I would get to learn more about WMF as well as gain valuable working experience that will benefit me in the future. I also had the chance to work with people in several different departments of WMF. This also allowed me to gain a better understanding of what WMF is all about. In addition to that, I also had the opportunity to attend a very interesting lecture about historic architecture in China that was given by an Associate Professor at Tsinghua University named Liu Chang. Throughout his lecture, he talked about methods of architecture used in China and some of China’s major and less known landmarks. It was a great learning experience for me and I am glad that I had the chance to be a part of it.

Working as an intern for WMF also gave me a great sense of responsibility. I was assigned a number of time-sensitive projects. For example, I was responsible for scanning several WMF publications that would later be posted on the WMF website. I knew that these assignments were very important, so I made sure that I completed them as efficiently as possible. Having that sort of responsibility and being able to handle it properly really made me feel good.

Overall, I would consider my experience with WMF to be a great one. I learned many new things and met a lot of great people. This is definitely something that will stick with me for a very long time, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to participate in it.
