Preservation on Nantucket

I was invited to the Preservation Institute: Nantucket’s summer program in early July as one of several visiting speakers. I gave a presentation on some of WMF’s projects, entitled “Highlights of South American World Heritage Sites.”

In the photo above (right to left) are Glenn Boornazian and Norman Weiss, two visiting faculty at the institute who were teaching material conservation that week; one of the students; and the curator of the Mitchell House. They are discussing moisture on the brick chimney in the attic of the house. The 18th-century house, one of the sites selected as a case study this summer, was the home of Maria Mitchell, the first professional female astronomer in the U.S.
