A pilot initiative from WMF’s Coastal Connections program, the Caribbean Hub is creating a regional network supporting coastal heritage.
Protecting the Caribbean’s Coastal Heritage
Building on the success of Coastal Connections in supporting coastal heritage sites globally, the Coastal Connections Caribbean Hub (CCCH) is a dedicated regional platform in the Caribbean.
The goal of this pilot platform is to unite heritage practitioners, site managers, and community members in responding to the urgent and uneven challenges facing the region’s coastal heritage sites, from the impacts of climate change to resource constraints.
CCCH aims to strengthen regional collaboration and knowledge exchange by creating a dynamic network rooted in local expertise. Coordinated by Caribbean-based professionals, the initiative will encourage members to share practical tools, case studies, and strategies that reflect the realities of managing historic sites in complex and changing coastal environments.
Rooted in local knowledge and experience, the hub will support more responsive, context-driven approaches to safeguarding cultural heritage.
Fostering Regional Capacity
Early hub activities will include mapping coastal heritage sites and regional challenges, holding a series of small group engagements, organizing virtual workshops, and piloting an in-person “site surge” model, an intensive, collaborative effort in which practitioners work together to address real-time challenges at a selected site. These activities are designed to build capacity, deepen peer-to-peer learning, and strengthen connections across the region.
CCCH seeks to establish a lasting and scalable network that enhances the resilience of coastal heritage in the Caribbean. By bringing together diverse voices and expertise, the hub will contribute to more effective management practices and support long-term solutions that are grounded in the region’s unique environmental and cultural context.
