Join us for a presentation by architect Paulina Villanueva as she reflects on the life and work of her father, renowned Venezuelan architect Carlos Raul Villanueva. Villanueva, one of the most influential Latin American architects of the twentieth century, played a major role in the modernization of many cities in Venezuela. His career as an architect spanned four decades and includes major works like the Museum of Fine Arts in Caracas, numerous public housing complexes and private residences, and the Jesús Soto Museum of Modern Art in Ciudad Bolivar—his last work. His most celebrated work is the Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, included on the 2014 World Monuments Watch and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. It is a masterpiece of urban design that transformed the city with its use of innovative technology and functional yet daring architectural designs.
