This June, World Monuments Fund held an unforgettable Escapade in Granada, one of Spain’s most culturally and architecturally significant cities. Travelers enjoyed exclusive access to heritage sites, experienced the vibrancy of Andalusian traditions, and celebrated WMF’s enduring work in Spain with flamenco, fine dining, and an evening concert inside the Alhambra itself.

WMF’s work at the Alhambra, recognized with the Grand Prix for Conservation by the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra, continues today with new restoration initiatives across the historic complex.

Key trip activities included:

- Welcome lunch at Maria de la O, a Michelin-listed restaurant housed in a 19th-century palace, followed by a walking tour of Granada’s Cathedral, Royal Chapel, and the Camarín de la Virgen Coronada.

- A gala anniversary dinner at Casa de los Chapiteles, honoring former WMF Spain President Juan Carlos Fierro Jiménez-Lopera, followed by a traditional flamenco performance.

- A morning tour of the Alhambra, including rarely accessible spaces and a behind-the-scenes look at WMF’s restoration projects.

- Lunch in the gardens of Carmen Las Tomasas, followed by a visit to the historic Convent of Santa Isabel, with a private performance by the resident cloistered nuns.

- A visit to San Miguel Bajo, site of WMF’s benefit concert.

- An atmospheric cocktail evening at the Aljibes de la Alhambra, culminating in a private concert by the Granada City Orchestra and William Eddins at the Palacio de Carlos V.
