Landscape & Water: Aesthetics of the Rajput-Mughal Imagination with Ursula Weekes
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai and World Monuments Fund in India invite you to an illustrated talk.

date & time
Location
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) 159–161 Mahatma Gandhi Road, Fort, Mumbai 400023
Drawing from paintings and architectural landscapes, the talk will examine how gardens, rivers and water infrastructure were imagined, designed and represented; revealing ideas of beauty, leisure, power and civic duty in the relationship between nature and the built environment.
This conversation resonates with World Monuments Fund (WMF) in India’s work on Cultivating Resilience, which recognizes historic gardens and water systems as important tools for responding to a changing climate. Through the conservation of historic gardens, water channels, tanks, and wells, WMF in India works to revive these living systems, strengthen water resilience and demonstrate how heritage can contribute to climate adaptation today.
The lush charbagh gardens of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya in its Indo-Saracenic heritage precinct provides a fitting backdrop for this talk, connecting historical contexts to modern lived experiences.
