This series was funded by The Metropolitan Museum’s Michael C. Rockefeller Wing Capital Project. Support for WMF’s contribution was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kimmelman.
Presented as part of the public program for the exhibition Correspondances by Roméo Mivekannin, the screening will be followed by a conversation with Denis Alexandre Lahiniriko, Director of Heritage at the Madagascar Ministry of Communication and Culture. He will reflect upon the enduring cultural importance of this pilgrimage site, where Malagasy come to seek the blessings of their ancestors and bathe in sacred spring water to this day.
“Royal Hill of Ambohimanga” is part of Africa’s Cultural Landmarks, a documentary series exploring current preservation efforts at heritage sites across the continent against a backdrop of challenges.
