Constructed in 1952 by Mohamed Makiya, this landmark of Iraqi modernism was destroyed in 2014 by ISIS, and has been restored by WMF since 2020, together with the Louvre, ALIPH Foundation, the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage, and the Smithsonian Institution, and will reopen soon.
