Heritage Trades Training
For years, WMF has led high-quality training programs designed to build capacity in preservation and create pathways to employment. Traditional trades and crafts are on the decline worldwide, representing a significant challenge for the preservation field.
The Institute heritage trades training programs equip technicians and craftspeople with the skills needed to repair and restore the world’s cultural heritage. Current training programs include the Bridge to Crafts Careers program across the United States; Sala Bakheng training and certificate program at Angkor Archaeological Park, Cambodia; and Strata Florida Trades Training in the United Kingdom.

The Sala Bakheng training program
Explore our work across Angkor Archaeological ParkThe Sala Bakheng training program aims to standardize the knowledge and skills of site technicians working across Angkor Archaeological Park, creating a cohort of certified supervisors capable of guiding and overseeing conservation efforts in coordination with the Authority for the Protection of the Site and Management of the Region of Angkor (APSARA).

Strata Florida training program
Explore Strata FloridaRestoring the historic farmstead buildings at the medieval Welsh monastery of Strata Florida provides hands-on experience in traditional craft skills, including stonemasonry, carpentry, lime work, and building conservation. These training programs, crafted alongside local colleges, apprenticeship programs, and specialist tutors, will bolster alumni employability and address the shortage of heritage skills in Wales.
