Sustainable Urban Preservation: Developing a Model Program for New York

During the summer of 1993, World Monuments Fund hosted a symposium entitled “Employment Strategies for the Restoration Arts: Craft Training in the Service of Historic Preservation.” Subsequently, World Monuments Fund organized a series of roundtable discussions with key city agencies, seeking assess the economic impact of restoration craft training and the net benefits of preservation on the New York community. This report was produced as a continuation of these efforts, highlighting the ways in which historic preservation work stimulates sustainable neighborhood development as well as recognizing the critical role that training in the restoration arts will play for the long term prospects for preservation work in New York City.
