Working Tour and Symposium Regarding Preservation Projects in Mexico and the American Southwest

Reports on a 1993 tour and symposium organized by World Monuments Fund to better integrate preservation planning between Mexico and the United States. The sites visited during the tour were concentrated on the Los Caminos del Rio Heritage Corridor along the lower Rio Grande and in the region of Puebla, in Mexico. After visiting numerous historic sites, symposium attendees discussed the use of different methodologies, the common need for more public involvement, and the potential for new preservation programs. The report’s primary finding was that organizational involvement would be more beneficial to the sites on the Mexican side of the corridor, most notably the site of Guerrero Viejo, as sites in the United States had already secured significant funding.
