The Rehabilitation of the Mosul Museum, Iraq

The project to rehabilitate the Mosul Cultural Museum, an iconic example of modernist Iraqi architecture, has entered a new phase following destruction by ISIS in 2015. The museum’s future is envisioned as a vibrant gathering place that will aid in the city’s post-conflict recovery. Our work will take an inclusive approach engaging local experts and the community in the design process.

Thanks to support from the International alliance for the protection of heritage in conflict areas (ALIPH), World Monuments Fund (WMF) has joined the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage (SBAH), the Musée du Louvre, and the Smithsonian Institution to bring the museum back to life.
