American Express and the World Monuments Watch

A Transformative Partnership

As founding sponsor of the World Monuments Watch, American Express has provided transformative support for the world’s irreplaceable cultural heritage sites—and the communities that treasure them—for more than two decades.

Recognizing the importance of cultural sites as symbols of national and local identity, and their power to attract visitors and revitalize neighborhoods, American Express demonstrates a visionary commitment to the world’s heritage that complements the company’s role as a global leader in travel and tourism.

Over more than 20 years, American Express has contributed more than $16 million to help preserve 160 heritage sites in 70 countries through our World Monuments Watch partnership.  Nominations from around the globe draw critical attention to endangered sites—from the most famous and familiar, such as the Great Wall of China, to the unexpected and remote, like Ernest Shackleton’s Hut in Antarctica.

Have a look at some of the remarkable places American Express has helped to transform.
