Monumental Journeys: Japan will focus on WMF's 25 years of preservation work throughout Japan with exclusive access to architecture, gardens, and special spaces, and culminating in a grand gala celebration at Tokyo National Museum.
The impressive sites on this itinerary range from medieval to modern and touch upon Japan’s imperial and equally-rich vernacular history. In Kanazawa, you will have the opportunity to see WMF’s work to help revive traditional goldleaf craftsmanship, as well as our efforts to help restore historic structures after the devastating earthquake on the Noto Peninsula in January 2024.
Your time in Kyoto will include visits to historic Imperial Convents and traditional houses unique to this region of Japan. Along the way you will experience traditional Japanese culture through music, dance, and cuisine, all coinciding with one of the most magical seasons in Japan, when sakura (cherry blossoms) are in bloom throughout the country.
Monumental Journeys: Japan will take place during two separate consecutive time periods: Group One will travel from March 29 to April 6, 2027 and Group Two will travel from April 4 to 12, 2027. Both trips are limited to 25 travelers and will have the same visits and experiences.
