Nathan W. Stroupe joined World Monuments Fund (WMF) as the Senior Director of Field Projects in 2024 and currently oversees 51 projects across 34 countries.
Prior to joining WMF, he worked in Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East overseeing cultural heritage and development programs for the United Nations-Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and Turquoise Mountain, an NGO focused on the protection of cultural heritage. During his time in Afghanistan, Iran, Jordan, Palestine, Tajikistan, and Saudi Arabia, he managed programs in built heritage, urban development, artisan education, and livelihood support for partners, including the International alliance for the protection of heritage in conflict areas (ALIPH), the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund, the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations, and the World Bank. Nathan has degrees in archaeology, Middle Eastern history, and Islamic studies from UC Berkeley, Columbia University, and the University of Tehran.
