World Monuments Fund Presents
Five Years of Work at Wat Chaiwatthanaram
In 2011, Thailand experienced unprecedented rainfall, causing flooding and extensive damage to infrastructure throughout the country. Cultural heritage sites were greatly affected, including the magnificent temple complex of Wat Chaiwatthanaram in Ayutthaya. That same year, World Monuments Fund was invited by the Fine Arts Department of Thailand to assess the conditions of the site. Thanks to the support of the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, and the Robert W. Wilson Challenge to Conserve Our Heritage we have been working at Wat Chaiwatthanaram since. This slideshow highlights our work in these past five years.
