Project-based learning Unit: New Gourna, Luxor, Egypt

This project-based learning unit is one of a series developed by World Monuments Fund and World Savvy, an education organization dedicated to engaging youth in community and world affairs. By combining WMF’s knowledge and experience in the heritage field with World Savvy’s education mission and network, this series seeks to prepare the next generation of leaders to learn, work, and thrive as responsible global citizens. The New Gourna unit is designed to engage students in grades 6-12 in an exploration of the first examples of modern sustainable architecture, the village of New Gourna in Luxor, Egypt. It provides a basis from which students can examine the concept of sustainability and investigate the importance of local engagement in developing strong communities and culturally- and environmentally-responsive built environments.
