Project-based learning Unit: San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas, Peru

This project-based learning unit is one of a series developed by World Monuments Fund and World Savvy, an education organization dedicated to engaging youth in community and world affairs. By combining WMF’s knowledge and experience in the heritage field with World Savvy’s education mission and network, this series seeks to prepare the next generation of leaders to learn, work, and thrive as responsible global citizens. The Andahuaylillas unit is designed to engage students in grades 6-12 in an exploration of the role of communities in preserving historic landmarks and promoting sustainable tourism. Using the church of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas, students learn about its history, and the importance of its art and architecture, as well as efforts to restore it with the participation of and stewardship of the local community.
