Restoration of Tenyu-ji Temple Kannon-do Hall after the Great East Japan Earthquake

The destruction inflicted by the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami was so extensive that more than 700 cultural heritage sites in the area were damaged. These sites, including the Kannon-do Hall at Tenyu-ji Temple, were collectively listed on the World Monuments Watch, first in 2012 and again in 2014.

WMF supported the restoration of Kannon-do Hall at Tenyu-ji Temple, allowing the community to resume the historic and traditional events that have always taken place at the venue.
